The Value of Roman Numeral Gold

The 1985 Gold Bullion Act, signed by President Ronald Reagan, that these magnificent coins be sourced only from U.S. gold. Coins struck between 1986 and 1991 use Roman numerals for the date. Starting in 1992, the coins were stamped with Arabic numerals, as is all U.S. currency.

First struck in 1986, the Gold American Eagle is a joy to behold. These coins are issued in 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz and 1 oz denominations. Renowned artist Augustus Saint Gaudens and sculptor Miley Busiek both contributed to the design, with a version of Saint Gaudens’ epic rendition of Lady Liberty on one side and a family of bald eagles by Busiek on the other.

Following customary money issuance, Gold American Eagle coins are struck in $5, $10, $25 and $50 denominations – though they have never been circulated as actual currency.

To date, Roman Numeral Gold Eagles historically boast an average increase in value of 1250%. These gold coins are an excellent portfolio addition for the discerning investor or collector.
